Byron Dwayne Eberhart, 74, of Roswell NM was born to J.C. Eberhart and Jenell in Duncan Oklahoma on May 17, 1941. Both parents have preceded him in death.
Byron was the quintessential hard working farmer; up early, dusty days, and tireless hours. Farming to Byron had always been more than just a job. Working the land and yielding its harvest was a passion of pride and he was driven to excellence to provide for his family. For a time farming was even a family affair working with his cousin Larry Wagner. No job on the farm was off limits either. Byron was skilled in the art of operating the farming machines, cutting cotton or hay, running the cubers, and going to classes to get certifications so he could use chemicals correctly so that the food and textile materials could be resilient in the fields without compromising human safety. Out on the land he enjoyed the serenity of quiet time as he drove his rumbling tractor through rows of hay, just a man alone with his thoughts and the smell of cut hay in his nose. It was hard work but satisfying to his nature. He loved to eat and simplicity was his taste. He loved baloney, rolled up and put down without garnish or bread, and there was no wrong way to eat hot dog wieners. Sunday afternoons in his chair, feet up, he loved to relax by watching NASCAR races on TV with his beloved dogs at his side.
Byron is survived by his wife, Sherry Eberhart of the family home; daughter Audrey Hagler of San Diego, California; adopted daughters, DaShawna Taft of Oklahoma, Tonja Helmstetler of Roswell, NM, and Talannie Herron of Kentucky; a brother, Gary Eberhart and 9 grandchildren.
The family will be accepting visitations from 8 am to 5 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2016 and from 8 to 2 on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Ballard Funeral Home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 1, 2016 at Ballard Funeral Home. Pastor Gerry Chaves will be officiating the service.
