Bobbie Smith

Memorial Services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Ballard Funeral Home for Bobbie Jo Smith, 84, who passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Mission Arch Care Center. Bobbie was cremated according to her wishes. Pastor Danny Sons of Midway Assembly of God will officiate with a special musical provided by her grandson, Jay McClain. All friends and family are invited to attend the celebration of a very special lady.

Bobbie was one of ten kids born to Travis and Dorothy Bryant Amos on April 1, 1929 in Saltillo, Texas. Her parents preceded her in death. Bobbie married her first husband, Curley Ridgway, and they had two children: Floyd Ridgway and Jerrie Anne Ridgway McClain. She later married John E. Smith, PaPa, and they had three children: Mike Smith, Pat Smith, and Mary Beth Spittler. John preceded her in death. Bobbie was also preceded in death by her son, Pat Smith sisters, Barbara Johnson, Sonjia Baxley, and Suzie Zachniewski her brothers, Charles Amos, Aubrey Amos, and Tommy Amos, and her soninlaw, Paul McClain, Sr.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are sons, Floyd Ridgway of Roswell, Mike Smith and wife, Kelly of Roswell, and Eric Smith and wife Kaity of Oregon daughters, Jerrie Anne McClain of Roswell and Mary Beth Spittler and husband, Duane of Hagerman daughterinlaw, Glenda Smith of Roswell brother, Timothy Amos and wife, Dolly of Roswell sisters, Patsy Chrisman of Roswell and Sharon Smith and husband, James of Kansas sistersinlaw, Irene County of New Jersey and Mary Sue Amos of Arizona twentyfive grandchildren, fortysix greatgrandchildren and one on the way fifteen greatgreat grandchildren several nieces and nephews, and a very special friend that was like a son to Bobbie, Stewart Jordan and wife Judy of Kansas.

Bobbie was known as a loving mom, momma, grandma, granny, and by one son, old lady. She was a very strong and hard working woman. Bobbie worked for Cobeans, Holsum Bakery, retired from TMC, and then continued to work for the Roswell Schools in the cafeteria. Of course, she didnt stop there She went to work for the Joy Center which was her last stop before becoming fully retired She had many talents: crocheting, quilting, and sewing. She was an awesome seamstress. She could cut patterns out of newspapers She also made beautiful square dance outfits and western shirts.

Back in the day, one of her favorite things to do was square dance with PaPa. They were quite the pair on the dance floor. Bobbie also loved to bake all kinds of goodies for her friends, children, and grandchildren. All of us looked forward to Christmas time, so we could have some of her homemade fudge and awesome divinity. She will be missed very deeply by all who knew her. Mom, momma, grandma, granny, and old lady will live on in our hearts forever.

Bobbie and John Smiths ashes will be scattered at Silver Lake, where they loved to go camping, relax, and enjoy the outdoors and each other.

The family would like to thank Mission Arch for the care they gave her. Another special thank you goes to one of her granddaughters that works at Mission Arch, Ashley McClain Lucero. She always made sure Granny was taken care of, her nails were done, and her hair was fixed.
