Bettie Hamilton

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010, at South Park Cemetery for Bettie Ruth Hamilton, 84, who passed away April 14, 2010 at home of natural causes. Brother Wendell Wakefield will officiate. Bettie will be buried beside her beloved husband Paul who preceded her in death last year.

Bettie was born in Kingman, Arizona on May 3, 1925 to James Ellis and Nellie Edna Stuart Neighbors, who preceded her in death. Bettie and her family moved to Roswell in 1937 where she attended and graduated from Roswell High School in 1944.

In 1949, Bettie married Paul Hamilton in Roswell. Bettie and Paul enjoyed going fishing and traveling locally and around the country visiting family. Bettie worked at Thiokol Corporation and as a bookkeeper for Smith Machinery before retiring to work with the family business Hamilton Pumping Services. She was also a strong advocate for the rights of children and adults with developmental challenges.

Bettie enjoyed working on family genealogy of the Stuart, Neighbors, Hamilton and Sackett families collecting valuable family history and pictures for future generations to enjoy. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Bettie also canned fruits and vegetables grown in their yard and garden. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and her chocolate pie and pecan pie will be greatly missed. Bettie always looked forward to family coming to visit for an hour, overnight or an extended stay, whichever, they were always welcome.

Her older sister, Laura Edna Martin, preceded her in death. She is survived by her older brother L. B. Neighbors and his wife Francis of Mobile, Alabama, her younger sister Mary Louise Galyon of Philadelphia, Tennessee, and her sisterinlaw Jesse Hamilton of Yuma, Arizona.

Bettie is also survived by her sons Ronnie Hamilton and Mark Hamilton and his wife Shari all of Roswell, her granddaughter Tedi HamiltonWold and her husband Bryan, great granddaughter Kyra Gross, and great grandson Kaylyn Bubba Gross all of Pueblo, Colorado, great grandson Jordan Hamilton and cousin Betty Shoup and husband Tommy all of Roswell. Bettie is also survived by several generations of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Betties loving care providers Tammy Stewart and LaShondra Allen. They would also like to thank Dr. Jane Gilbreth and the Vista Care Hospice Team for their care, time and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tobosa Developmental Services.
