Bernice Eileen Costin

Bernice Costin let her body rest and gave her spirit

freedom on November 1, 2006 with her family by her

side. A memorial service celebrating her amazing life will

be held in Roswell on Wednesday November 8, 2006 at

10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day

Saints. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Wendel

Wakefield will officiate.

Bernice was born on July 16, 1949 in Standardville,

Utah. Throughout her life she was involved in many

organizations. She was Worthy Advisor for Rainbow for

Girls and Worthy Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star

as well as a member of the Rifle Club during her college

days at Eastern New Mexico University. She was picked as

a representative of New Mexico for the American Youth

Symphony and Choir which toured Europe as Ambassadors

of Good Will. She was married in 1981 to Mason Costin

and they spent 22 happy years together before he preceded

her in death. She was a Music and English teacher and

taught at numerous schools all over New Mexico over the

span of 27 years until she retired in 2003. She directed

numerous musicals and voice recitals throughout the years

and was loved by her students, many of which she

continued to stay in contact with. Family was also very

dear to Bernice. She loved her two sisters and got very

excited when there was an opportunity to have a family

gathering. Grandmother was her favorite title and she

enjoyed every minute spent with her 9 grandchildren. She

had three great grandchildren as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rowland and

Pauline Cato. She is survived by her children James Costin

and wife Virginia of Hobbs, Ronald Costin and wife Julie

of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Steven Costin of Phoenix,

Arizona, and Cassie Kermode and husband John of

Roswell. She is also survived by two sisters, Susan Hearn

and husband Kent of Wichita, Kansas, and Lynda Hatcher

and husband David of Wildomor, California. She also has

two nieces, CaraLynn Cato who has three children and

Sarah Frazier as well as a nephew, Wade Cato, who has

one child. We all love and miss our Meecie.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ballard

Funeral home and Crematory. An online memorial and
