It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arthur “Bull” Torrez, of Roswell, NM. He was a beloved partner, son, brother, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor. Bull left this world on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 69, in Lubbock, TX. He lived a life that was a testament to the power of service, generosity, humor, and stewardship.
Bull was known for his vivacious personality, contagious laughter, and his unwavering commitment to helping others. Whether through his work as President of the New Mexico Wastewater Association; his life membership of the Sertoma Club, twice presiding; Elks Lodge membership; President of the Eastside Little League; a member of the Southeast New Mexico Athletics Association for Volleyball and Baseball; an organizer for the Sertoma Colt Classic; an organizer for the Mike Satterfield 4th of July Firework display; or as a member of the Storm Ditch Acequia, Bull was an indispensable presence in the lives of many in Roswell, and across the State of New Mexico. His dedication to serving others was driven by a deep sense of duty and a belief that each person deserved kindness, respect, support, love, and laughter.
With a personality that could light up any room, Bull had the rare ability to make everyone feel comfortable, seen, heard, and important. His laughter, charm, and larger-than-life spirit was magnetic, drawing connections with people from all walks of life, and creating lifelong friendships. Those who know Bull will remember not just his sense of humor and zest for life, but his warmth and kindness that left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His thoughtfulness, wisdom, and generosity were pillars upon which others relied, and his legacy signifies a strong enthusiasm for life, in which he embraced every day with vigor and vitality.
Bull leaves behind a legacy reflecting a deep connection to Hondo, New Mexico, it was in Hondo, that Bull found both strength and peace, in working the land. It was the place that he loved, and the place you’d often find him. We are grateful for the cherished memories of fishing, camping, hunting, singing, dancing with Bull in Hondo. With every season, Hondo brought new beauty and new challenges, and Bull was more than honored to cultivate the land and tend to Rio Hondo. He believed in the power of hard work and the importance of passing down this value to future generations. Bull will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bull is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Ernest Torrez, and his brother Richard Torrez. He is survived by his beloved partner Emma Burt; his sister Ernestina Martinez (Raymond); and his children, Martin Torrez (Delilah), Sarah Fletcher (Derrick), Hugh Burt, and Ryan Burt (Sheri); and his grandchildren Jalen Lovato, Joshua Anderson, TJ Fletcher, Nakia Fletcher, Sofia Torrez, Zia Torrez, Lucia Torrez, and Eliana Burt, who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
