Antonio Lucero

August 26, 1921 — September 7, 2012

A rosary is scheduled for 7 pm, Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. Peters Catholic Church for Antonio B. Lucero 91, who passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 am, Tuesday, September 11, 2012 also at St. Peters Catholic Church. Father Charlie Martinez of St. Peters Catholic Church will be officiating. Cremation will follow as per Mr. Luceros request. Visitation will be held at Ballard Funeral Home on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 10 to 4 pm.

Antonio was born August 26, 1921 in Roswell, NM to Samuel and Damiana Barela Lucero. His parents preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his son Anthony S. Lucero. Antonio married Estela Reyes on August 12, 1953 in Roswell. She survives him at the family home in Roswell where they shared a wonderful life together for fiftynine years.

He is also survived by his sons Richard D. Lucero and Henry R. Lucero daughters Stella M. Bacca and husband John, Anna V. Lucero and partner Kala Naranjo, Gina Dwyer and husband Chuck and Collette Lucero and fianc Matt Thompson seven grandchildren Anthony Lucero, Laura Lucero, Derek Scifres, Joshua and Keenan Lucero and Eric Chavez and Danielle Urquides, granddaughter and fianc Donnie Ross who dedicated the last year of their life to care for their Honey and four great grandchildren.

Antonio was the last born of twelve children. He served in the Navy during WWII. Antonio volunteered on August 17, 1942 and served as a medic, treating the wounded American troops in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged December 23, 1945. Antonio served as an usher at St. Peters on Saturday evenings for over thirty years. He loved interacting with people. Antonios faith played a monumental role in his positive attitude. He never complained a day in his life no matter how bad he felt.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kumar, Lupita and the staff at Fresenius Dialysis Center where he was known as Mr. Great.
