A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2009 at South Park Cemetery for Anne Gertrude Porte, 80, of Dexter who passed away on January 19, 2009 in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. Stephen Deutsch of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Anne was born on May 17, 1928 in California to Ed Southfield, and Anne Elzinga Southfield. Her parents have preceded her in death as well as two brothers: Clarence Southfield, Harold Southfield, brother in laws, Art DeBoer, Walt Staal, Sam Visser, Cyril Romberg and one sister Mary Visser, and sister in law, Mildred Southfield.

Anne married Marvin Porte Sr. in California on June 20, 1945 and were married for 41 years. Her husband preceded her in death.

Anne is survived by her sons: Gary Porte and wife Lauri of Dexter, Gerald Porte of Dexter, Evan Porte of Hagerman, Allen Porte and wife Debbie of Hagerman, Marvin Porte Jr. and wife Sabrina of Phoenix, AZ; her daughter: Mary Ann Geib of Dexter; her brother: John Southfield of Nevada and Eddie Southfield and wife Carol of Idaho; her sisters: Jenny DeBoer of CA, Clara Romberg of CA, Jackie Southfield of CA, Jo Visser of AZ, Margie Staal of Idaho; her grandchildren: Gary Porte Jr., Billy Geib, Darcy Cheuvront and husband Justin, Mandy Porte, Paul Porte and wife Kim, Jennifer Nevarez and husband Evan, Beth Blair and husband Mehalic, A.J. Porte and wife Meghan, Tommy Porte and wife Amy, Michelle Borem and husband Joseph, Katie Geib, Kristina Porte, Brian Porte, Ashlee Porte, Markus Porte and Abby Porte; her great grandchildren: Jackson Cheuvront, Halle Blair and Oliver Cheuvront; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Anne has lived in Roswell for 20 years coming from California. Her favorite things in life were her family, they were her greatest joy. She loved to cook, crochet and traveling with the family. She was well known for her canning of vegetables. The farmers would plant and bring her extra from the field because was such and expert at canning and loved to do this for everyone.
