Angelita Chavez

Angelita Chavez, 94, passed away Thursday October 30, 2014 at Landsun Home in Carlsbad, New Mexico surrounded by her loved ones. Angelita was born December 1, 1919 in Hondo, New Mexico to Mauro and Tonita Aldaz Sanchez who preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Cecelia Booky of Hondo, New Mexico, brother Ernest Sanchez of Tucson, Arizona, her daughter Stella Vasquez and husband Horacio, son George Chavez and wife Ann, son Saturnino Chavez and wife Sondra, daughter Fatima Barnes and husband Jimmy, and son Gerry Chavez and wife Rebecca. She also had nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Angelita was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She spent her life tending to her family. She worked as a school librarian in Alamogordo until she retired in 1980. She was a volunteer for many years for the Hospital Auxiliary. Angelita was known for her sweet disposition, and she never met a stranger. Angelita enjoyed sewing and baking goodies for her family. She loved to sing and listen to music. She will be missed deeply by all those who loved her.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Landsun Home in Carlsbad for the wonderful care and love they gave to mother, and to the Landsun Hospice team for their wonderful care and support.

Serving as pallbearers are Angelitas grandsons: Randy Chavez, Michael Chavez, Derrick Chavez, Samuel Barnes, Benjamin Chavez, and Nicholas Chavez.
Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters: Bernadette Cannon, Cindy Chavez, and Jamie Barnes.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate the lives of Angelita and her husband of seventy five years Esequiel. Pastors Gerry Chavez and Benjamin Chavez will officiate. The service will be at Christs Church 2200 N. Sycamore, Roswell, New Mexico at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. All friends and family are invited to attend. Angelita will lie in state Monday, November 3, 2014 at Ballard Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
