Alma Starkey

Alma Lynn Starkey, born January 19, 1941 in Deming, NM, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 after a brave struggle with pneumonia.

She graduated from Roswell High School in 1959 and then attended ENMU. Alma married her high school sweetheart, Joe Starkey in September 1960. She worked for USF&G while Joe owned and operated automobile dealerships in Roswell. They shared 52 great years of marriage prior Joe's death in November 2012.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents I.R. (Izzy) and Lenore Funk. She enjoyed the activities and her friends at the First United Methodist Church as well as the morning Garden Club of Roswell. She also enjoyed several years of helping and caring for the elderly through the Comfort Keepers organization.

Alma is survived by her son, Ned Starkey of Roswell, NM, as well as her sister and brother-in-law Doris and Ken Gilbreath of Houston, TX.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, NM 88201 or the Roswell Humane Society, 703 E. McGaffey, Roswell, NM, 88203.

Graveside services will be conducted at South Park Cemetery by First United Methodist Church Pastor Laird Cross at 3 pm, Thursday, April 14, 2016.
