Alice Gail Croom
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Ballard Funeral Home for Alice Gail Croom, 76 with Pastor Nate Bienhoff officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Gail was born May 1, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to James Wollert Croom and Juanita Jenkins Croom and died after a lengthy battle with cancer on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
Gail was raised in a military family and was proud of those who served our country. After graduating from high school in Houston, TX she entered the Army to begin her own 34-years military career which she loved. She spent many years of this career as a Trauma Medic and Administrator. She served in two wars Vietnam and Desert Storm. She was a trained as an Airborne Paratrooper, Water Rafting, Chemical Biological Warfare and Logistics and Finance. Gail was proficient with the M16 Rifle and 45 Automatic Pistol earning her Sharpshooter and Marksman Badges. She loved the Army and was a well decorated soldier.
Gail was very athletic and loved playing softball and basketball in her early years in the Army. She loved animals, as a one-time horse owner she enjoyed riding and was very attached to her service dog Remi. Gail also had a passion for gardening, decorating, collecting gnomes, good music and dancing. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by many.
She is survived by family and friends including Helen Dennis; brother Doug Croom and wife Dianne of Lufkin, TX; nephew Michael Croom of Alexandria, VI; niece Marsha Croom Mitchell of Katy, TX; great nephews Jameson Mitchell and Jackson Mitchell also of Katy, TX.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents; uncle Shelton Croom and great aunt Alice Berlin.
Gail’s favorite passage: I’d rather be alone, than around chaos and confusion. Silence beats drama any day.
