Alfonso P. Blue Martinez went with the Angels on July 11, 2009 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Johns Catholic Church which will be led by Pablo Martinez. Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Johns Catholic Church. Fr. Juan Montoya, O.F.M. will officiate.
Alfonso was born on September 18, 1934 to Bennediza Piaz Martinez and Nestor Martinez in Vaughn, New Mexico. Alfonso married his hun, Betty Madrid, in Vaughn, New Mexico on January 23, 1954. They moved to Roswell in March of 1954 where they settled and raised their family.
At age 13, Alfonso started working in the fields of Texas. In 1954 he was hired by Ford Motor Company and worked for them for 34 years. Alfonso also worked for the Roswell Joy Center for 6 years.
Alfonso enjoyed crossword puzzles and sitting outside. He liked to watch all the grandkids and great grandkids play. He would also sit for hours watching John Wayne, the great Duke.
Survivors include wife, Betty Martinez; daughter Nadine and husband, Allen Brady of Roswell; son, Richard Martinez of Levelland, Texas and his significant other, Sandra Durazo of Arlington, Texas; son, Victor and wife, Erika Martinez of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; daughter, Mary and husband, Arthur Otero of Roswell; son, Greg Martinez of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; sister, Mandita Padilla of Hobbs; grandchildren: Rene Otero, Clarissa Otero, Tierra and Sylvester Lomeli, Gabriel and Brie Brady, Jacob Brady, Nickie Martinez, Sara and Anthony Gustamantes, Kimberly Martinez, Samantha and Trish Arriaga, and Victoria, Victor Jr., and Nathan Martinez,; great grandchildren: Aneisa Otero, Arianna and Matthew Otero, Zachary and Madison Seat, Isaac and Rhianna, baby boy Gustamantes on the way, Dominic, Xavier, and Sylvester Jr. Lomeli, Josh and Reid Oconner, Anissa and Jyssiah Escandon, and Xavier Sanchez; godsons: Jeffery Arias, Paul Padilla, Barney Padilla, Jr., and Ruben Montoya, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alfonso was preceded in death by his godsons: Glen Taylor Adkins, Frankie Garcia; brothers: Blas Martinez and Nestor Martinez, Jr.; his mom, Bennediza Piaz Martinez, and his father, Nestor Martinez.
Pallbearers will be Rene Otero, Jacob Brady, Gabriel Brady, Sylvester Lomeli, Anthony Gustamantes, Allen Brady, Arthur Otero, Dominic Lomeli, and Nathan Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his great grandchildren and godsons.
