Alifonsa Ellie Romero Quintana

A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2009 at St. Peters Catholic Church for Alifonsa Ellie Romero Quintana, 80 of Roswell who passed away May 9, 2009 at a local care center. A memorial mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Fr. Paul Juniet, O.F.M. of St. Peters Catholic Church will officiate. Alifonsa was cremated according to her wishes.

Alifonsa was born on December 8, 1928 to Ricardo and Luisa Zamora Romero. She was one of 14 children who grew up on a farm in San Isidoro, New Mexico. Alifonsa met Ray J. Quintana in 1942 when he was on furlough while serving in the U. S. Army. After his return from serving in Europe during WWII, he and Alifonsa were married on October 05, 1946. On March 7, 1948 their son, Hubert was born and on November 16, 1954 their daughter, Dorothy was born.

Alifonsa and her family lived in Las Cruces until 1964 when they decided to move their family to Palm Springs, CA. Alifonsa worked as a housekeeper for many families and remained in California until after her husband passed away in March of 1985, she lived in the Palm SpringsCathedral City area until 2003. In 2000 she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. In 2003 Alifonsa, as well as her daughter Dorothy and granddaughter Jessica moved to Roswell to be near her son Hubert and his family. She went to live at Mission Arch Care Center in 2005 and remained there until her passing.

Alifonsa is survived by her son, Hubert Quintana and Daughter, Dorothy Tyler as well as her grandchildren, Jessica Virgo, Peggy Bridge, Cinda Olvera, Ynez Fox, Hubert Chico Quintana and Marie Quintana, her brothers, Alonzo, Juan, Isidro, Rufio and Tony. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Ricardo and Luisa Zamora Romero, her husband Ray J. Quintana and her brothers and sisters: Frank, Dick, Joe, Bernie, Petra Coleman, Beatrice Banages, Dolores Alvarez and Fina Archuleta.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made in Alifonsa name to the Alzheimers Association, 8100 Mountain Rd, NE, Suite 102, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
