Verlon Hall went to be with his Lord on January 1, 2015 in Roswell, NM. He was 87 years old. Memorial services for Mr. Hall are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, January 23, 2015 at Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM. Burial of his ashes will follow later that day at 2:15 pm at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
Verlon was born November 19, 1927 in Jayton, TX to Claude Hall and Altha Blakley who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his first wife Margaret Preston Hall, who was the mother of his three sons, and his second wife Joanie Cox Hall.
Verlon was an outstanding athlete in football and basketball during his years at Roswell High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy as a seaman during WWII. He received an honorable discharge at the end of the war. Upon returning home Verlon played football on a scholarship at University of New Mexico and later basketball on a scholarship at NM State University. He and his NMSU team had the privilege of playing in the NIT at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This was the highlight of his athletic experience! He spent his career as a licensed surveyor and was elected president of the Rio Grande Chapter of NM Professional Surveyors. Verlon Hall was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM for most of his life.
Verlon loved to dance! He taught all his sons how to hunt and fish. Verlon was a talented musician all his life. He played the piano, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and violin. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing both gospel and country music. Verlon passed on his love of music to future generations - his sons, grandchildren, and even great grandsons. His music will stand as his legacy forever!
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Richard Hall and wife Valerie of Albuquerque, NM; Preston Hall of Roswell, NM; Rusty Hall and wife Beth of Parker, CO; sister Claudine and husband Wilbur Ray of Hughson, CA; grandchildren Jordan, Cody, and Ethan by Richard and Valerie Hall; Jesse, Jaime, Jenna, and Rebecca by Preston and Sandy Hall; Taylor, Courtney, Amanda, and Isaiah by Rusty and Beth Hall; great-grandsons Liam and Brady by Jordan and Kelsey Hall; Jace by Craig and Jaime Alcone.
